Costa Rica is known for its wildlife, forests, and culture. Does it have instagrammable places to take photos everyone will talk about?
Costa Rica is known worldwide for its wildlife, forests, and culture. But; the million-dollar question is:
Does Costa Rica have instagrammable places to take those photos that everyone will talk about?
1. Monteverde Cloud Forest
It’s located, along the Cordillera de Tilaran, between Puntarenas and Guanacaste. It is a lot like the United States’ Pacific Northwest region — evergreen due to the precipitation and moisture-filled clouds that hover over the horizon on an almost daily basis.
Why is Monteverde a great instagrammable place to take pictures?
This place has been gaining popularity among national and foreign tourists due to the massive diversity of birds, mammals, and plants that people can found in this Natural Reserve.
The local tourist organizations had been working for years to offer attractive and sustainable tours with the lowest ecosystem and environmental impact.
When is the best time to visit Monteverde Cloud Forest?
It depends on the experience you are looking for:
- The rainy season starts in May and ends in November.
- The dry season begins in December and ends in April.
*Keep in mind Monteverde is a Cloud Forest; this means rains a lot. If you are visiting during the rainy season, it might rain all day long.
Where could you take great Instagram pictures and selfies in Monteverde?
There are many places to do this. There are hundreds of trails to walk in, hanging bridges, butterfly farms. It’s basically up to you, this location is unique, and picture opportunities are going to be all over the place.

2. Avellana Beach
It is; located at Guanacaste Providence on the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. Pretty close to Tamarindo (one of the most famous beaches of Guanacaste). Sunsets at Avellanas are beautiful.
Why is Avellana Beach a great place to take pictures?
The beach has white sand, enormous palm trees, monkeys easy to spot. There is also the wooden bridge surrounded by mangler. The bridge is astonishing for taking that one-time selfie or group photo, hopefully when the sun goes down.
And do you have any picture of you with a pig? The moment you arrived, a very particular resident of this beach is “Lola;” the 400 kg pig that will be there to welcome you at the beach bar. This; is an instagrammable opportunity you can afford to lose.

Once again, it depends on your likes and dislikes; you may consider the rainy and dry seasons in Costa Rica.
It is also convenient to consult the Costa Rican calendars, visiting Playa Avellanas; On a holiday, it may not be a good idea because the place; will be crowded.
3. Poas Volcano
Not only has one of the largest craters in the world, and it’s been active since 1828, and it has erupted 48 times until today. Poas Volcano is located, in the forests of Central Mountain Range, in Alajuela Providence. Tourists and visitors can easily access the Paos Volcano from the major cities of Costa Rica.
Why is Poas Volcano a great place to take pictures?
The National Park offers to its visitors a trail network with great spots to take that precious picture; you get to the Laguna Botos in which you will find spectacular scenery to take another pic.
However, the coolest picture will be with the Main Crater on your back. You take this instagrammable picture at the lookout point where you will be pretty close to the crater. It is one of those unique places in the world where you might get that close to an active enormous volcano crater.

When is the best time to visit Poas Volcano?
It’s recommended it to visit this National Park within the morning, the earlier, the better.
If you are visiting Costa Rica during the rainy season, check on the weather report:
- During the influence of a tropical storm condition, it might be a good idea to change plans and to avoid spending time going to the Poas Volcano.
- When the weather forecast predicts fog in the area, same advice, invest your time in something else cause it’s not worth going to the volcano under this condition.
4. Hidden Treasure Waterfall
After driving 90 minutes away from San Jose, you will find the Hidden Treasure Waterfall at Bajos del Toro, Sarchi Norte. It was recently founded and ever since has become one of the most popular places to go to by Costa Ricans.
Why is the Hidden Treasure Waterfall a great place to take pictures?
Here you can take one of the best instagrammable pictures with a 213 feet high waterfall with blue water.
Also, there are look-up points where you have unique views, blue water, lots of birds. And that impression of being in a private tropical forest and paradise.

The dry season is the way to go in this location. Hiking and swimming are safer under dry season conditions.
5. Cerro Pelado
You may locate Cerro Pelado 12 km away from Cañas City, Guanacaste. It is an old inactive volcano with a horseshoe shape. Due to its inactivity for thousands of years, there is no visible crater; but the experience of walking into its trails is fantastic.
You may see rabbits, goats, and other small mammals during the trip here, but those are not the main key-points to take pictures of on this trip.
Why is Cerro Pelado a great place to take pictures?
Once you get to the mountaintop trails, the view is incredible. The fact there are no trees or tall flora at the top of the mountain; offers 360 grades view and backgrounds for cool pictures.
My advice, be at the top f the mountain early in the morning when the sun comes up or in the afternoon when the sun comes down. If you do this, the instagrammable pictures you’ll get are going to place you in the spotlight of your social platforms.

When is the best time to visit Cerro Pelado?
During the dry season, the experience will be more comfortable and easy to hike to the top of the mountain. There will be more chances to take pictures with the sky clean (no clouds at all). But it’s hotter, and you will need to take lots of water with you.
During the rainy season, you may not have that clean sky I’ve mentioned before, which means the sun won’t be that hard when going up to see the sun goes down. You might need less water to walk to the top of the mountain.
These are the five places I will list; to take instagrammable beautiful pictures while in Costa Rica. Most of them are only getting visits to Costa Ricans. Take advantage of this, discover beautiful places, create great memories, and if you find some other place you think it should be added to this list please, let me know about it in the comments.
